Summer High School Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How many absences can a student have in summer school?
Answer: One absence only. If a student is absent for any reason for two or more days, that student cannot receive credit for the course. No Exceptions.

 

How does a student qualify for "In District" Tuition?
Answer: Any student who lives within the Austin School District boundaries qualifies for "In District" tuition, regardless of the school they attend.

Proof of residency may be required in the form of a utility bill or mortgage/lease papers in the parent's name.

How long is each class?
Answer: Each class meets four (4) hours and 30 minutes per day, from 9:15 a.m.-1:45 p.m.

 

How many courses can a student take per session?
Answer: Students may take only one class per session. Each class will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. each day.

 

Will transportation be provided for summer school students?
Answer: Yes. Bus schedules will be available at a later date.

Bus schedules will be are available online and at on-site registration.

Bus transportation will be free.

 

When is summer graduation?
Answer: Summer graduation will be held Friday, August 29, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the AISD Delco Activity Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Drive.

 

Which summer school site should I attend?
Answer: Students may attend any summer school they wish. However, if they attend a school outside of the clusters listed above (see the previous question), they must provide their own transportation.

 

How do I pay for summer school tuition?
Answer: Tuition is due at the time a student registers for summer school.

You can pay with a credit or debit card (Master Card or VISA) during any registration. A $5 processing fee will be added for all credit/debit card transactions.

You can also pay with cash or money order during On-Site registration.

You cannot pay with a check. No checks will be accepted.

 

Can I register for a course that says "for Credit Recovery"?
Answer: Students may register for a "Credit Recovery" course only if they have taken the course previously and failed it. No exceptions.

 

Can a student switch from one course to another?
Answer: A student may switch courses BEFORE classes start for that session. Students may not switch courses AFTER the session starts.

 

What do I do if I need to cancel my registration and get a refund?
Answer: To cancel a registration and get a refund, students must submit a Summer School Tuition Refund Request form.

Refund requests for session 1 are due no later than June 18.

Refund requests for session 2 are due no later than July 15.

No refund requests will be accepted after July 15, 2007.

I am on the free or reduced lunch program. Do I have to pay for summer school?
Answer: Yes, all students will be charged tuition for summer school.

 

Which session of summer school should I take?
Summer school sessions match the regular year schedule: the first session will cover the first half of a course (example: Algebra 1A).

The second session will cover the second half of the course (example: Algebra 1B).

Students should check with their counselor to ensure they register for the right course.
